Anyone who has noticed the crackles and crunches on the rare disco tracks played over cocktails at a Jake event will have surmised that we are into our vinyl. Or maybe you were too drunk to care. And while we may spend our time transferring rare 12-inchers to digital for your Jake enjoyment - a YouTube ‘how-to’ video on one side, a vodka martini on the other - it’s such a relief to at last be able to play Donna Summer’s Once Upon a Time – double album, gatefold sleeve - on a gadget with no wires, no extra speakers, no ugly add-on bits… And it’s all thanks to this one-unit unit, which, for the first time ever, has a deck and a high-quality speaker in one, thanks to the invention of a high-quality speaker that doesn’t vibrate and mess with the playing of said Donna Summer album. Simple, clever and, yeah, it’s clunky but we quite like that.
