Tom, that naughty man from Finland, now has a whole culture festival!
You know Tom of Finland, the erotic artist responsible for populating the gay world with drawings of beautiful men with apparently outsize organs. Well, people say they’re outsize, they look pretty par for the course to us (smiley emoticon).
Anyway, not to be distracted by outsize organs, even though it may be a little late in the day to make that resolution, the Foundation that already has vodka and fragrance in its rich portfolio, is, this very weekend - October 8-9 - launching the Tom of Finland Art & Culture Festival, kicking off with a launch party at - where else? - The Eagle in Vauxhall this Friday.
The whole thing happens at Second Home in Spitalfields and is designed to bring together queer erotic artists and the people who love them in an atmosphere that’s friendly and community spirited. And you can’t argue with that. Perhaps most exciting is the VR experience of Tom’s House plus the murals and… well, lots of stuff.
And it’s not just butch men who get the spotlight: as part of its annual awards in transatlantic fashion, they will be inducting the living artwork that is Daniel Lismore into their Artist Hall of Fame, a space that already includes photographer Herb Ritts, Alien designer HR Giger and artist (and Christopher Isherwood’s partner) Don Bachardy.
It’s Art. It’s Queer. You Should Be Here.
