Almodóvar, Cocteau, Swinton, Balenciaga

No, it’s not a stream of consciousness of some of our top cultural icons, it’s edited highlights from the credits of The Human Voice, the film that’s looking like being one of the most interesting moments in the upcoming London Film Festival.

It’s gay Spanish director Almodóvar’s first English language film based on the monologue by the gay French Renaissance man about a woman sitting by the phone and going into meltdown as she waits for her lover to call. We’ve all been there, right? Well, back when there were actual phones to wait by. It stars Tilda Swinton (no relation to the range of rice products available everywhere) and in it she wears this red dress by Balenciaga, which will interest someone. Oh and the film has a pre-recorded Q&A session with Almodóvar (remember al-mo-DOH-vah) and Swinton (you know how to say that, surely!)

The 64th BFI London Film Festival runs at various locations 7-18 October
